Is the led light facing outwards

What you see here faces onto the inside of your window. There are no leds. The outside face has a Doberman security sticker on it. Because the discs are about 3" diameter they are a pretty visible deterent

How long do the batteries last for?

It depends upon how often the device is switch on, location, and the quality of the batteries installed. My 2 devices are permanently on, the batteries have lasted more than 12 months.

Are these left switched on continuosly or supposed to be swtched on only when required eg. when going out, please?

There is a switch on the unit. You stick the device on your door and switch on. If the door is vibrated the alarm will sound. If you want to open the door you would have to switch off the device but the rest of the time it can be left switched on

can one remove the units without damage? Thinking for the future. Thanks

Not tried to remove one yet. I would imagine a window scaper might work but i wouldnt stick to wood or paint
