Not unless your Macbook Air has a DisplayPort, rather than Mini Display Port. It probably does not.

Q: Will it extend my display or only mirror it on the monitor?

That is controlled by the source, e.g. in Windows you cam choose whether to duplicate or extend

I suppose it depends on if the mac in question has a female display port for the male end of this cable to plug into or not.

Literally plugged my old monitor VGA cable into this and inserted in to the display port and BAM - works perfectly, no adjustments or settings to tweak, just perfect!

I run twin monitors and one would not run at higher resolutions max 1000x700 , after fitting this display port adapter- back to 1600x1000 all fixed , who knew these things fail in stages.The Amazon own item looks well made ad does exactly what it’s supposed to do 😃Worth a punt before you start swapping displays, docking stations or laptops😂

Picture quality is as good as VGA can give really. Connection quality is better than the one I was using prior that broke quickly. Fits securely and I fully recommend this one.

Great adapter for those with older monitors

Just Didn't Work

It says it works with any DP but didn't work in my old PC. All i know is my PC displayport is works (i have tried with a monitor which has displayport). but this didn't work. waste of money
