House of Marbles Deluxe Wooden Chess & Draughts Set

A great first chess & draught set for my grandson, its sturdy & with drawers to keep all pieces together, good value for money, speedy delivery, satisfied customer.

Not sure what is 'deluxe' about the set, it certainly isn't luxurious. However, it is as described, made well enough for the price, the wooden board is nice, the wooden pieces adequate for the job, and having the two built in drawers to store them is a great touch (and the reason this one was bought) instead of separate bags which could be lost. If you want luxury woods and intricately carved pieces, this set isn't it, but it is perfectly acceptable as described, and I wasn't disappointed as it was as I expected it to be. Delivery was prompt and on time.

This was bought as a gift. We like it, it's sturdy pieces are of good size and decoration. The drawers are ample for storing both sets of pieces and glide nicely. The only little niggle was the instruction booklet... is really a double sided leaflet and not the most informative. Luckily this was going into a confident chess playing family. The recipient also accessed you tube to gain knowledge.Overall a lovely set.

The chess pieces are a comfortable, workable size. They are varnished wood, and look good, and they have thin, felt pads on the bottom of each piece.There is also a felt pad on each of the four corners of the wooden base.The board is almost 12inches x 12inches, but there is a small margin around, which means the playing area is only 10inches x 10inches. This makes for quite a compact game when all the chess pieces are on the board.The drawers are handy for storing the pieces, but they slip out quite easily when transporting the board around. I am going to fit a tiny catch onto each drawer, to hold the drawer in place.On the set I`ve bought, one of the drawers is a snug fit, but the other drawer is not quite flush.We can live with that though.The set also contains draught pieces, and instructions for playing.

Ordered the day before Christmas Eve and arrived on Christmas Eve!A nice set, good quality for the money and it's had quite a few games played on it already and everything is holding-up well (despite a few tantrums when I've lost!)

I wanted a nice chess / checkers set to play with my 4 year old on cold/wet days instead of having the TV on.This set is beautifully crafted and has been a great addition to the house. It does small a little (even still), but it's to be expected with wood pieces & varnish.My 4 year old loves playing checkers now and 12 months later we're still playing! Definitely a good set!

Terrible quality and missing pieces. My son recently started playing chess and I decided to buy him a wooden chess set. This product arrived in the mail and I must say that the quality is terrible. The wood feels cheap (okay this is not a pricey item). The chess board is glued to the top of the drawers and the glue has come loose at 3 points making the top flop about. Worse of all is that the set shipped with the draughts pieces but contained no chess pieces at all. The drawer for the chess pieces was completely empty. I now have to start the painful process of doing an international return with amazon (I live abroad)... :(

My son was absolutely delighted with this chess board! It was very handy having the drawers to put the pieces in and was great that it was 2 games in one. However the top of the board started warping about a month after we got it to the extent that the one end landed up pulling up, exposing the pin supposed to hold the bits together. Have returned it and have ordered a new one hoping it was just a one off bad model.
