As a relatively new HAM, I spent a long time deciding on what I wanted to get to start out with..considering I had spent so much on everything else I'd bought so far, I grabbed this to communicate with my local club. I read the reviews..poor range..hard to program yada yada, got it anyways.I don't know what people are so confused by but this radio is NOT hard to program manually..at all. I haven't even needed to use a computer to do so, I think that would probably cause more trouble and confusion than doing it manually (for me, anyways).Exceptional receive range for the price, I can hear repeaters up to 50 miles away using the STOCK rubber duck antenna, from my location. In terms of transmitting, I'm able to be clearly heard on every repeater within 12-15 miles of me using the same little stock antenna. An upgrade to a cheap magmount antenna doubled that. Sturdy and well made, I have dropped it a couple times on the concrete with not so much as a scuff mark. Receives NOAA weather reports flawlessly from 35 miles away.All in all for the price, this is a steal, and a great entry level radio for someone who just wants to test the waters. I have had no problems whatsoever with mine and will likely buy one to keep in the car!

Bought earlier version of same model,& this is definitely an upgraded version. Well worth the price, with surprising quality build as well as function.

OLD REVIEW (The radio is beautiful, it feels solid, I was hopeful that I got a great deal, but radio reports are of super low audio and very weak deviation, the reciever is ok but the transmit audio sucks, i bought a new speaker mic for it but it doesn't work because it looks like the jacks it plugs into are not right, the included ear piece will not work either, and you can be listening to a repeater and move your hand away and lose reception even with an Abbree or stock antenna, I will spend more and buy a yaesu, i had an old Alinco DJ-580 and it was far superior ( probably cost much more used still ) but I do not like this 30 dollar pile it's not worth it if its junk ) ...UPDATE REVIEW > so I messed up this radio is ok, yes the audio is low on the other end but its acceptable if you speak up, and the reason I could not get the accessory jack to work for the headset, the programming cable and the external microphone was me, I was babying it to plug it in and not pushing hard enough because I thought I was going to damage something, then the seller reached out to me and offered a new radio and 15 bucks cash back, both of which I turned down because it was my fault so to the seller I apologize and thank you for understanding,So all told for the price of these radios you will not do much better ( I know how much other radios can cost ) and thanks again to customer service your great

Product is as described and works great! Very happy with my baofeng radio .. shipped faster than expected

You have to program in the frequency that you want but it's not to hard Youtube made it a breeze. I use them to listen to the local charter fishing boats to know when they are coming in. I don't take mine off the charger much but one of the 3 is used every day off the charger and seems to hold a charge very well. I have never transmitted and don't know how that would work. Receiver works increadably well I can hear signal's almost as far as my friend that has a dedicated scanner and antenna. I also like having it in case of emergency on hiking/camping outings but have never had to use it. The sound quality is great. I would highly recommend these for whatever your needs I can't imagine how you could beat it for the price.

Nice size radio, multi function.

Just purchased, and discovered that the FM radio is not working. May have to return it..This is what Baofeng website says:"One of the most common questions that we have been receiving lately has been: ‘Why isn’t the FM radio working on my radio?’ First, before we dive into the topic, we will preface the answer by affirming that all BTECH distributed radios have fully functioning FM radios and no modifications have been made to our distributed radios or products.As we are all aware there have many hurdles to manufacturing, including a chip shortage, ever since the pandemic’s start in 2020. Costs have been skyrocketing and there has been little relief to any aspect of distribution or logistics.Due to these obstacles, most distributors of Baofeng products have decided to modify or cut back on features in their products to try and keep costs down. While the removal of a feature might be understandable, the issue is those products are still advertised as being the same product they once were, and no mention of the cost-saving changes has been disclosed by those distributors.
