MW PolarPeppered Smoked Herring, 7.05 Ounce (Pack of 12)

I was really surprised with how tasty this snack is. The pepper is there and there's a great smoke flavor. I've eaten canned sardines and I Don't like that their spine is included, don't like that crunch. These are proper fillets and seasoned very well. Will buy again! I do caution opening these though. This isn't tuna that smells a little like fish. The liquid/oil smells strongly of fish and should be opened and drained carefully. The fish taste amazing though!

I was not familiar with any canned fish items except tuna and sardines. I recently visited a tapas restaurant that served a conservas platter. It had canned mussels,cockles, tuna, and herring along with other items. I really enjoyed the herring and wanted to have some on hand at home. I researched different brands and I wanted to try a reasonably priced smoked herring as my entry point. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the Polar Peppered Smoked Herring but I have been pleasantly surprised! I've made herring toast and made a smoked fish dip using these cans. I did not get a strong smoky flavor that I was expecting or a super fishy taste. To my taste buds, it was slightly peppery and mild. The smell of the sauce is VERY fishy and I have to wash my hands a couple of times if any of the sauce gets on my hands. My cans have been full with at least 3 or 4 fillets. I would absolutely order again.

Excellent!! I was really nervous about ordering this as my guy loves smoked oysters and mussles. I wanted to try something new for him and I as the benifts are huge from fish. You recieve a generous amount of fish and it looks just like the picture! I think even better. All the spices are there but not over berring. It has a tiny bit of heat for just a second ( We dont do hot spicey), but this tiny heat was perfect! The fish has skin but no bones. It is packed in water but there is a slick of oil too. Perfect. The smoke is subtle enough on the fish as not to drown the delicate flavor. I'm a tad squeemish when it comes to skin and "fishy" tastes and this recipe rocks! You dont need to pair it with anything, but we had an assortment of crackers, fruit, white wine, cheese's, and antiposto. YUMMY!The only difference I personaly would have liked is that the fish be packed in more healthy oils. Just my taste. It dosent need it tho. The can was easy to open with the pull back tab. I am a penny pincher, but the few cents extra on this brand is worth it. I will buy again.Grab yourself some! AWESOME fish for 2 or 4.

I don't know if it's this brand but these are far too salty, over peppered, unpleasant smell, more liquid/less fish. Not good quality & an off texture/taste.

Can lids puffy, seems like it might be BAD. Not going to eat this.

Very good value. Keep it in mind, it's not pretty and lacks a bit of flavor. But, I just add some lemon juice and it's much better. You can also add other flavors. It doesn't have alot of oil either (that it's cooked in) so that's good as well!
