Once I got the sides to snap together, no more squirrel problem.
I bought this baffle solely because of its diameter – 22.5 inches. The bird feeder where I use this baffle is one that is supported by a rope from above. A description of my setup is (starting from the top) a) the support arm that holds my whole contraption, b) a section of rope, c) this baffle, d) another section of rope, and e) a carabiner clip that holds the feeder. With other, smaller baffles, the squirrels were able to grab onto the rope above the baffle with their hind legs, rest their body on the top of the baffle, thus tilting it to one side, reach around the baffle with their front legs and grab hold of either the lower rope or feeder. Once they have a hold of the feeder, they then release their back legs and the squirrel gets rewarded – thus entirely defeating the baffle. Quite an impressive gymnastic move. This larger baffle solves the above problem. It’s diameter is too large for the squirrels’ body to do that “reach around” maneuver. The baffle is a circular piece of metal with a narrow pie-shaped piece removed. The idea is to attach the 2 sides of the pie-shape, thus forming a shallow cone shape. It did take me a couple of tries to get the sides to snaps together correctly. But once together, they haven’t budged since. You kinda have to bend and twist to snap them together – there are no instructions. While the sides were separated, the squirrels were able to squeeze thru the pie-shaped opening and get to the feeder. This baffle comes in 2 options for connections; one for pole-mount from below, and one for hook-mount from above. It does not come with a “rope from above thru the center” like I needed. So I bought the pole-mount and jerry-rigged what I needed. It works fine.

Truly deters squirrels!
I’ve had this up now about 3 to 4 weeks and have not seen a single squirrel up on my birdfeeders at all and they used to just wipe me out completely.

After 5 years, it still works, but did not age well cosmetically - See pic
Purchased in May 1977. First, the good news: It still keeps squirrels off the feeder! That said, the powder coat finish has worn off and the steel beneath it is rusting. See the attached photo. To me, this is not a good value! Many other choices at much lower prices.

Squirrels Not Allowed!
The order came in a timely manner with good packaging. All arrived in excellent condition. This is a large squirrel baffle / guard for my bird feeder. For quite a while we had problems with the squirrels eating a lot of the bird seed. Tried various things, but nothing seemed effective. This 22.5" guard works great! We have it mounted above the feeder because the squirrels were jumping from neighboring trees onto the roof of the feeder. The morning after the installation of this large squirrel guard, see saw a squirrel make the leap. As soon as hit tried to land on the guard, it tilted sharply and sent the squirrel off into the air and onto the ground below. What a sight! We had a good laugh. Since then we have witnessed another squirrel eviction. At this point we couldn't be happier. By the way, the birds have no problem dealing with the large guard. We highly recommend this squirrel guard.

All in all a great product
This sucker is very difficult to put together! We had to jury-rig it by putting it together in a manner as close to the instructions as we could and then we bent those parts slightly with pliers to keep them from coming back apart easily. Seems ridiculous that it's so difficult to put together, but once you manage to do that it works great!! My feeders are far enough away from any trees to keep squirrels from jumping onto them from above, and this baffle keeps squirrels from climbing up the pole to get to the feeders. I barely see any squirrels in my yard since I added this gem to my bird feeder pole, and my bird seed lasts much, much longer now!

keeping the squirrels off the bird feeder
It was exactly what I wanted and needed. I have to do a slight modification but the squirrels have quit trying to get on the bird feeder. I needed to make the hole bigger for my post but the metal is thin enough to cut with a jigsaw. Getting the latch latched was a challenged. Very happy with the end result.

GREAT 22.5 inch metal baffle cured raccoon problem!
This large 22.5 inch metal baffle finally stopped my resident raccoon from reaching my stand-alone bird feeder. The bird feeder came with a smaller plastic baffle that worked great for the squirrels but the raccoon just climbed up the pole, reached past the plastic baffle and pulled himself up onto the bird feeder tray for a nightly feast. I got some great photos of the raccoon on the feeder but it is a BIRD feeder, not a raccoon feeder. I left the plastic baffle on and just placed this metal baffle right below it and the problem was solved! The diameter of my pole was slightly larger than the hole of the baffle but I bent the baffle downward some and was able to connect the two ends together (the baffle has one split from the center hole to the outer edge and is closed with a tab. The split makes it easier to slip the baffle around a pole without having to take off the bird feeder.)

Probably the best guard I've seen
My only complaint is cost. Maybe this is an example of you get what you pay for. I has completely foil the raccoons who not only raided our bird feeders but destroyed some wooden ones. I imagine this guard mounted above the feeder is effective against squirrels with the added benefit of shielding the feeder from rain.

Amazon has great quality stuff
But the squirrel baffle assisted the rodents to the bird feeder.
