I can't get my luminary to stand up. I put water in it, bottom is stiff and won't stand. What am I doing wrong??

Did you open the bottom flat? IF it does not stand then it must be defective. I have bought several and put them out in my balcony all the time. They are beautiful.

Do you put water in the bag? Or do you put the bag in water? Can they be used without water?

You place the water in the luminary (bag as you refer to it). It stats out flat and pops open when filled with water. The included led candles are water activated. The light when the touch water, so they cannot be used without water. Each set has 4 water activated led candles and 4 expandable luminaries

Are these on a timer or auto on/off ?

No timer but you take the light out of the water and it shuts off

Candles won't turn off. They've been dried and out of water 8 hours. How do I turn them off?

Same here. Candle just came on when I took it out of the box. Huh. Odd. Put it in the luminaria on the water the same way I did with the other candles & bags (which turned on as expected). Took the candle out of the water. Dried it. Blew on it. Put it in a dark bag. Still on. Guess I’ll just wait for the battery to die :-/
