Six films starring the voluptuous screen goddess Sophia Loren. 'The Pride and the Passion' (1957) is based on the novel by C.S. Forester which is set in Spain during the Napoleonic Wars. British military officer Captain Anthony Trumbull (Cary Grant) is ordered to retrieve a large cannon and transport it to the British lines. In order to do this he enlists the help of guerilla leader Miguel (Frank Sinatra) and together - along with Miguel's mistress Juana (Loren) who takes a shine to Trumball - they track through the mountains of Spain to the British frontline. In 'El Cid' (1961), Charlton Heston stars as the legendary 11th Century Spanish patriot El Cid, who fights to drive invading Moors from Spain. Loren co-stars as his seductive but duplicitous lover Chimene. However, their love is tested to its limits when he kills her father, she vows vengeance, and he sets out on a crusade to rid Spain of its aggressors. In 'The Fall of the Roman Empire' (1964), Anthony Mann directs a star-studded cast in this Hollywood epic re-telling the last days of the Roman Empire. Emperor Aurelius (Alec Guinness) is poisoned by his son Commodus (Christopher Plummer), who then seizes the throne. Corrupt and cruel, Commodus brings the once mighty Empire to its knees through pestilence and war with the Barbarians, and condemns his own sister Lucilla (Loren) to death at the stake. 'White Sister' (1972) is an Italian comedy, starring Loren as a nurse treating a Communist activist who starts inventing ailments so he can spend longer in her company. In 'The Key' (1958), William Holden plays American captain David Ross, who arrives in wartime Britain to pilot a tugboat into 'U-Boat Alley' and rescue damaged Allied ships. A comrade gives Ross a key to an apartment that belongs to Stella (Loren), but all of Stella's former lovers have ended up killed in action. When they begin a torrid affair , Ross starts to lose his nerve, convinced that he will be killed at sea himself. Finally, in 'The Countess From Hong Kong' (1966), an American diplomat (Marlon Brando) is heading for Hawaii from Hong Kong in order to attempt to patch things up with his estranged wife Martha (Tippi Hedren). His trip soon becomes eventful as he finds a Russian countess, a stowaway, in his cabin. Having begged for his help, Natascha (Sophia Loren) resorts to blackmail in order to emigrate to the US.
