Will the sensor detect breaking glass anywhere in the vicinity or does it just detect vibration from the window it is on?

Its detection technology is vibration-only, not acoustic or sound-activated. It is unlikely to respond to glass breaking in the vicinity. Please consider placing one of these sensors on each window or pane that you want to protect. And, if that is not practical, consider one of our motion sensors, for protection of a larger area. Would a large sliding glass door need two of these?

Do both doors move? If not, probably, just one on the sliding door should be sufficient. Breaking the non-sliding one should shake the other one enough to activate the sensor. It does have adjustable sensitivity. You can tap or pound on the non-sliding one until you get the desired response. Eric with YoSmart

does it require subscription?

No required subscriptions, no fees. The app is free. There is a limited number of SMS alerts available. The number is determined by your quantity of devices times 5, plus five. A hub and two Vibration Sensors would give you 20 texts per month free. If you need more than that, you can add 200 or 500 more for two or five dollars per month by (optional) subscription. Of course you can get essentially unlimited emails and push notifications, including iOS Critical Alerts for iPhones.
