need a lil excitement? snap into it!
THE BEST OF WCW'S HALLOWEEN HAVOC (1998)approx. 55 minutesThis is a decent compilation of one of my favorite annual pay-per-views, Halloween Havoc. This was supposed to be the "spooky" themed PPV and this made many of the matches more gimmicky and bizarre. The wrestling audience nowadays is "too smart" to have a sustained interest in this type of PPV, but I still miss the event.Anyhow, the tape features matches from 1989 all the way up to 1997. You will recognize many faces, including WCW mainstay Sting, Ric Flair, Mick Foley and Hogan in both incarnations. You will recognize many voices too, including Jim Ross, Mike Tenay, Jesse Ventura, Bobby Heenan, Dusty Rhodes and intros from Michael Buffer (you know... "Let's get ready to rumble!!!!" guy). But what's great about this tape is the people you may have forgot. Hardcore legends Terry Funk and Abdullah the Butcher, Japanese star Great Muta, and monster heel Vader all make appearances. You can also see Scott Hall as "the Diamond Studd" and Macho Man in his "Slim Jim" duds. Mean Gene Okerlund sort of hosts the tape, meaning he appears three times explaining first that the tape is beginning, next that the section on Hogan is beginning and finally that the tape is over. One of the best characteristics of Halloween Havoc was that there was almost always an off-the-wall type of match each year. For example, in the "Chamber of Horrors" match, the object is to put a member of the opposing team into an electric chair. Many of the matches on this tape are cage matches. Don't forget about Jake and Sting's "coalminer's glove match", which was selected by spinning a "price is right"-type wheel. And then there's the interferences, including a mysterious masked man hitting Sting and Jimmy Hart with a club in one match and then Sting switching places with another Sting early on (?!).I'll devote a whole paragraph to the weirdest clip on the tape:Another match which isn't as successful was the "Monster Truck Sumo" match which featured Hogan and the Giant running the big trucks into each other, only to have Hogan accidentally throw Giant off a building. In the storyline, Giant was angry at Hogan for defeating "his father" (a reference to Andre the Giant, who wasn't related to his in real life). The two later meet for a very weird match where Hogan is wearing black tights with lightning bolts about 9 months before his heel turn at Bash at the Beach '96! He is also donning "Taskmaster"-style facepaint, explained by the announcers as "the dark side of Hogan". The match ends with several people running in, including one of the silliest characters in wrestling history "the Yeti". He was a very tall mummy who wrapped his arms around his opponent as he twitched! To quote Mike Tenay, "What in the Hell is going on?"As with all of the WCW tapes from this time period, the matches are edited down. While many of the memorable moments are intact (such as Randy Savage's flying elbow from the top of the cage), we miss out on some of the theatrics that were a big part of Halloween Havoc. For example there was a strange segment where druids or something came in during the 1991 PPV that is missing here. There are enough good moments to keep your interest, but if you remember the matches when they aired, you may be disappointed in the chopping.Halloween Havoc '89Cage MatchThe Great Muta and Terry Funk vs. Sting and Ric FlairHalloween Havoc '90Tag Team Title MatchNasty Boys vs. Steiner BrothersHalloween Havoc '90Heavyweight Title MatchSid Vicious vs. Sting(interference from another Sting)Halloween Havoc '91"Chamber of Horrors"Vader, Abdullah the Butcher, Cactus Jack and Diamond Studd (Scott Hall)vs. Sting, El Gigante and the Steiner BrothersHalloween Havoc '92"Coal Miner's Glove Match"Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs. Sting(interference from Cactus Jack)Halloween Havoc '93Heavyweight Title MatchRavishing Rick Rude vs. Ric FlairHalloween Havoc '94Heavyweight Title MatchRic Flair vs. Hulk Hoganspecial referee: Mr.Tinterference from Sherri and "the Masked Man"Halloween Havoc '95Monster Truck MatchGiant vs. Hulk Hoganinterference from Lex Luger, Randy Savage, Kevin Sullivan, Jimmy Hart and "the Yeti"Halloween Havoc '96Heavyweight Title MatchHollywood Hogan vs. Macho Man Randy Savageinterference from The GiantHalloween Havoc '97Cage MatchHollywood Hogan vs. Rowdy Roddy Piperinterference by Randy SavageThere are some things missing from this tape, namely the great Havoc promos. The most infamous are probably the skits done for Sting vs. Jake the Snake which showed a bewildered Sting wandering through Jake's criminal underworld. Also, the packaging of the tape shows the WCW character Mortis who does not make any appearances on the tape! It would be great if WWE did a newer Halloween Havoc package, but I'm not holding my breath.

Best WCW Pay Per view Maybe Ever!
Alright I just want to Know how the wcw can go from such a Great company to the worst wrestling orginization ever in two months. I mean this pay per was amazing with great wrestling from the beggining to the very end.Disco Inferno vs. Lash LaruGood cruiserweight fighting it really kicked off the show on a good note.Harlem Heat vs. Filthy animals vs. Hugh morris and Brian Nobbs For Tag team championship- This match was good, it was actually pretty funny they used mummies and water bottles and we see Harlem Heat win their 10th tag team championship.Television Championship Match was great bith men really wanted the win and surprising ending.Sting vs. Hulk Hogan- I don't know what the hell happend here....If someone could clue me in Please do so.Flair vs. DDP was great flair was bloody and a brutal match.Sid vs. Goldberg-The best match of the night by far the blood was pooring from sid probably the most blood I have ever seen in wcw and this match ends with Goldberg winning the United states Title.Sting (champion) vs. Goldberg- Now Goldberg walks out with the world heavyweight championship in this 3 minute match but the title wasnt really on the line though I don't think because at the next pay per view Bret Hart wins the world title in a turnament if someone could clue me on this too please do but I guess Goldberg IS THE HEAVYWEIGHT Champion!

WCW/NWO The Best of Halloween Havoc review
The best matches on the tape were The US tag team title match between The Nasty Boys(Brain Knobbs & Jerry Sags) & The Steiner Brother(Rick & Scott)from 1990,The World title match between Hulk Hogan & The Giant(Paul Wright)from 1995,The steel cage tag team brawl between the team of Sting & Ric Flair against the team of Terry Funk & The Great Muta(1989) and the world title match between Sting & Sid Vicious(1990). The worst matches were the "Monster truck" match between Hogan & Giant(1995) and the Chamber of Horrors match between Team Sting & Team Cactus Jack(1991). The rest were ok. The only match should have been on the tape was the Eddie Guerrero-Rey Misterio-mask vs Crusierweight title match which was a high-flying,hard-hitting showstealer. I give this tape a 6 out of 10.

Certaintly worth the price!
NOTE: Despite what's stated in the editorial review, this IS a box set - 7 discs in one case, plus another set for the 2 bonus features. Also, they are Region-Free (R0). I haven't seen these movies in years and what a joy to watch them again, and what a bargain! All that I've watched so far are excellent quality. The "25 Years" set is quite a bonus as well. Case and disc artwork aren't the greatest but the discs play well, and for this price I can't complain. Also, kudos for not including #3, which has nothing to do with the Halloween franchise and is just a waste of money.
