Are there any extensions customers can buy to make these tables taller?

We looked at extending the stand but the tubes that house the leg adjustments are hollow and didn’t make the stand sturdy. We ended up returning the stands due to this reason (mostly because it was too short for our bed). Hope this helps.

Can to plug the plug into a surge protector?

It's just like any appliance or electronic device.. I don't see why you couldn't. If I wanted to, I'd plug it into a surge protector, especially if I used the outlets on the table for computers/tablets.. But I'm not an electrical engineer..
