Red Star, Yeast, 32 Ounce

There are certain pantry staples you stop questioning after they earn your trust. Red Star Active Dry Yeast earned mine years ago, and the 2 lb bag has since become a permanent fixture in my refrigerator. If you bake with any regularity, this is the yeast you should be using. My use case: I bake a wide range of yeasted breads, but my real benchmark is challah. Challah is unforgiving — it demands a vigorous, reliable rise to achieve that signature pillowy interior and glossy, braided structure. A weak or inconsistent yeast will betray you every time. Red Star has never once let me down. Consistency across years, not just batches: This is what separates a truly good yeast from a merely adequate one. It’s easy for a product to perform well once. What’s harder — and what Red Star consistently delivers — is the same reliable bloom, the same vigorous activity, and the same predictable rise time batch after batch, year after year. When you’re working with an enriched dough like challah, where eggs and oil can inhibit yeast activity, you need something with real vitality. This has it. The 2 lb bag — a genuine value: Buying in bulk makes sense for any serious home baker, and the price-to-quality ratio here is exceptional. Stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, it maintains its potency for a long time. You’re getting professional-grade yeast at a fraction of what specialty stores charge for far smaller quantities. One minor note: The packaging, while functional, isn’t resealable. You’ll want to transfer it to an airtight jar or container immediately — which is standard practice for bulk yeast anyway, but worth mentioning for newer bakers who might not know to do this. Bottom line: Red Star Active Dry Yeast is reliable, affordable, and performs beautifully across everything from simple sandwich loaves to complex enriched doughs. It’s one of those products I recommend without hesitation to every baker I know. If you’re still buying the small-packet yeast, this bag will change your habits permanently.

I recently bought the Red Star Active Dry Yeast, 2 Pound Bag, and I’m extremely happy with my purchase. The package arrived promptly and was well-sealed, ensuring that the yeast stayed fresh and undamaged during shipping. I’m using this yeast for a homemade CO2 generator in my plant room, and it has been working exceptionally well. The yeast activates quickly and produces a steady stream of CO2, which is essential for the growth and health of my plants. Since I started using it, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in the vigor and overall growth rate of my indoor garden. The quality of the yeast is excellent. It dissolves easily in water, and I haven’t encountered any issues with clumping or inconsistent activation. The instructions on the package are clear and easy to follow, which made setting up my CO2 generator a breeze. I simply mix the yeast with sugar and water, and within a short period, it starts producing CO2 efficiently. Another great aspect of this product is the quantity. The 2-pound bag is very generous and provides plenty of yeast for multiple batches of CO2 production. This makes it a cost-effective solution for maintaining a high CO2 environment in my plant room over an extended period. Although I’m using this yeast primarily for my plants, I’ve also used it for baking a few times, and it performs just as well. It rises consistently and produces excellent bread and pastries, which is a nice bonus. Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with the Red Star Active Dry Yeast. It’s a high-quality, versatile product that has significantly benefited my indoor gardening setup. If you’re looking for an effective and reliable yeast for CO2 generation or baking, I highly recommend this product. It has made a noticeable difference in my plant room, and I’m confident it will meet your needs as well.

There is a certain romance to baking your own bread. The kneading, the rising, the aroma that makes your kitchen feel like a French village. Then there is the reality. You open a tiny packet of yeast that has been sitting in your cupboard since the previous administration, and nothing happens. No foam. No life. Just sad, beige disappointment. Red Star solves this problem with a two pound pouch that would make your grandmother raise an eyebrow and then secretly approve. It is a serious amount of yeast, the kind you decant into a jar and keep in the fridge like a tiny, productive pet. Active dry, which means you get to watch it bloom in warm water with a pinch of sugar. That little ritual never gets old. The yeast is vigorous without being aggressive. It produces a steady, reliable rise. Dinner rolls come out fluffy. Pizza dough gets that chewy edge. Focaccia develops those beautiful bubbles. No mysterious failures, no batches that taste like stale beer. It just works batch after batch, month after month. Two pounds sounds like a commitment. It is. But if you bake even once a week, you will be grateful for the backup. No more last minute dashes to the bodega for overpriced three packet strips. No more wondering if your dough will embarrass you in front of guests. Just consistent, forgiving yeast that does exactly what it promises. A pantry staple for people who actually use their pantry.

This is a great price for good yeast. I make a lot of bread in my bread machine, so I keep the yeast bag in the freezer, and also a small bottle that I refill from the bag to make it easier. Given the price of the little strip of 3 packets, this is worth around $180. Seriously. If you bake much, this is awesome. Lasts me a couple years.

Won't use anything else. Predictable rise in my baked goods. I bake many Breads per week so this economical size makes sense for me

.nice to have around good product

This is a really good yeast. It was worth spending the money for 2lb. Keep it in the fridge in a airtight container and it will last a really long time, probably more than 2 years.

Red Star yeast has been my go-to for decades. Rise times are not much different than the rapid rise, “instant” variety, and I prefer the flavor in finished products. Will keep in the freezer for a year or longer with no noticeable change in effectiveness.

👍

As a newbie in the world of baking, I have fallen in love with the RED STAR Active Dry Yeast in the 908g package. Not only does it make my bread taste amazing, but the quantity it offers at such a great value is perfect for someone like me who is just starting out. One of the things I appreciate most about this yeast is how easy it is to use. As a beginner, I was worried about getting the measurements right and making sure the yeast would activate properly. However, with this yeast, I have had no issues. The granules are simple to measure and dissolve quickly in warm water, giving my bread the perfect rise every time. The 908g package size is ideal for me as a newbie baker. It gives me plenty of yeast to experiment with different recipes without having to worry about running out. This means I can practice my baking skills and try out new bread creations without the stress of constantly needing to buy more yeast. With this yeast, I can confidently embark on my baking journey and create delicious homemade bread that will impress my friends and family. Please remember to store the yeast properly (I store it in my fridge) and follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer for the best results. Happy baking!

I bake all my own bread. Love this yeast. Works as it should. But at a more reasonable price than competitors. I put 1 cup of yeast into a small container and keep the big pack in thre freezer.

I use this to make yeast doughs, obviously. It's an excellent product. Once opened it needs to be kept in the freezer. I transfer a small amount to a jar that I can take and remove easily from the freezer. It never fails to work and the savings is huge if you buy it this way.

Looks great. Be sure to read the best before date carefully, the Manufacture Date is printed first.... fooled me.
