Suedehead

Just as i remembered it.

Different times, probably wouldn't get past sensors today, but it says what was happening at that time.

Reminiscing about my youth in he 70"s so thought I'd purchase this book. It was OK but a reminder how my memories can become romanticised over the years!

A very poorly researched and unsuccessful attempt to portray a particular facet of British subculture from someone who has absolutely no grasp of the subject he is writing about. It is badly written and probably the only passing acquaintance the book has with Suedeheads is the picture on the book cover. I realise this book, and others by the same author, were written some time ago but that is no reason to excuse the lack of a decent storyline or the most basic semblance to reality.When the author boldly asserts, during one of his attempts to delve into the psyche of violent thugs, that " despite what sociologists and psychiatrists would have us believe", thus dismissing all learned research on violent behaviour, then you know you are not going to get any balanced critique or reasoned argument. The book has the feel of the writings of someone who may have met a genuine Suedehead/Skinhead in a pub once and decided to make up a story about them.Badly written, poorly researched, factually incorrect throughout.

I bought this along with Richard Allen's "Skinhead" as this is the second part of the story told in that book plus given the price who could argue with it, that is one of the great things with the Kindle library, the price of some great books is realy chap.

Love these book had them all as a kid payed 25pence from Woolworths getting them all back well worth the money it's the memories I have as 12 year old lad spending every penny on these books know I have nearly got them all back

Very disappointing. Skinhead was a great book, not particularly well written, but still a good yarn and a decent document of the times. Suedehead, however, is neither. The plot jumps all over the place. The characters are incredibly weak and unbelievable and the lead, Joe Hawkins, is completely alien to his original portrayal. He even seems like several different people in this one novel! This book seems to have been written as a quick reaction to the unexpected success of Skinhead and as such the author has to squeeze in sex and violence where he can. The football ground incident is simply ridiculous. I finished the book, so two stars rather than one.....

Read this in my youth and wanted a bit of nostalgia so I downloaded it. Just as I remembered it and a good bit of entertainment. Seems less shocking nowadays.
