A Beautiful, Beautiful Bargain!
I purchased this book hoping that it was top quality. I was shocked! It's one of the most wonderful books I've ever owned. The book arrived inside a beautiful protective box. I feel that the book is worth far more than the price I paid for it. I'm now reading every word, and I cannot begin to say how much I appreciate this fine writing. I'm learning a great, great deal.

Beautiful table book for display
Good, as complete as it could be for a 400-page book trying to cover over 5,000 years of history.

Great for teachers
Bought this as a Christmas present for a high school history teacher as soon as they opened it they had so much fun going thru it. She said it had a different way of getting the information across and plans to use it in her classroom.

A potentially wonderful book that sadly misses the mark
While the book is colourful, it offers challenges for serious scholars of world history. It provides what I guess is an attempt to give a politically correct version of history that doesn't offend followers of Islam, but instead grossly insults Judaic Christian adherents in the process. For example, there is zero reference to Kings David, Solomon, the Israelite period, and only a fleeting mention of the prophet Moses, while it does provide numerous references to the Islamic prophet. This omission undermines the later more balanced section on the Middle East. It then remains totally unclear that there is an ancient connection between for example the Jewish population in Israel and their heritage on the land. Not very clever. I hope this serious oversight can be remedied in future editions as this book is otherwise an excellent choice for less discerning consumers. The author tries to justify the exclusion of the Biblical period under the pretext of there being little factual evidence in support. However, if they do a little homework there is ample extra Biblical sources to refer to. That said, I am impressed with the rest of the book, enough to give it a fair rating.

This is one of the best books on world history for kids. My 12 years old son willingly and happily reads it.

It is too superficial, even gives a wrong perception on some facts and periods of history - but it looks pretty ...

Great book, with a nice storytelling!

Remove the hardcover book from its outer box to reveal Tutankhamun on the front cover. The shiny hieroglyphics on box itself was enough to get my daughter interested in the history book - a first! The 416 pages inside cover 5,000 years of illustrated history and the author uses coloured bars to introduce subjects and frequent headings to split up the text into an encyclopedia style of presentation that makes the book easy to read and and keeps even those with the shortest attention spans engaged! In 'World History,' Parker hasn't just written a history book, he's created a coffee-table masterpiece that you can pick up and put down as often as you like, use it to settle those sisterly disagreements ("Dad, which came first, World War 2 or the English Civil War?") and keep referring back to it when you're caught out by a quiz show.
