Does all I want it to
I wanted a cheap banjo that I could keep at my son’s house to practice when I visit, so it’s just for occasional use. This fitted the bill so I bought it when I saw it on offer. The price of this 3rd Avenue banjo goes up and down more than a yoyo, but you can get some amazing bargains if you time your purchase right. Choose carefully! As a banjo, it's definitely at the lower end of the market: The bridge is just about the cheapest piece of wood you can imagine; the 5th string tuning peg isn't geared so lacks precision and could slip; and the small, round 5th string nut is really poor (but it has so far done the job). Also, the spacing of the fret markings on the neck matches that found on guitars rather than banjos, with a mark at the 9th instead of than the 10th fret. You can tell it's been built to a budget but if you're ok with that, then you won't be disappointed.Setup was just as straightforward as most banjos and it stays in tune well. I took the resonator off and stuffed the pot with tea towels to mute the sound (in consideration of my son’s neighbours!). Whilst the resonator was off I took the time to make sure the tension hooks were all sufficiently tight. If you buy this as a first banjo I would recommend buying a strap, finger picks (if you want to learn 3 finger banjo) and a tuner to go with it.Overall, I'm happy with the banjo – it does what I need.

Perfect Beginner banjo
Cheapest I could find but it sounds great ! Seems perfectly sound and reliable . Great action. Plays well. Nice pegs. I did file the bridge a wee bit coz the high g string kept slipping off but that's normal anyway.. I got a spare bridge anyhow... I like it alot. I love my new banjo . Great deal. Thanks...

Value for money
More than happy with the product. Build quality was fine for the price. Shame about the strings but there cheap enough to replace, which I did straight away. For a novice like myself outstanding value for money. Take a tip and order a strap to, it helps a lot.

Quality that belies the low price tag
Absolutely over the moon with this. Having read earlier feed back and being prepared to fit the bridge in place, I set about fixing it only overtighten the shorter G-string by accident causing it to snap. No bodies fault but my own.I then amazed myself by changing the snapped string....admittedly a bit fiddly but pleased as punch that I learned how to do that too.All in all very impressed with the look, the quality and the sound. Great value for money

Absolutely Awful
I received this banjo today. I've been playing guitar for nigh on 30 years and I've owned a cheaper guitar here or there but nothing anywhere near as poor quality as this 'banjo'. The pot is moving about as if it is not all screwed together properly. The bridge is laughable. The strings keep popping out of it as the notches that should hold them are nowhere near deep enough. Not for a beginner at all as you need tools to properly set it up like a jewellers file to improve the bridge notches. There are also two small dents on the back of it. To top it all off I've gone to return it and I've been advised they'll only pay £4.50 towards the return despite A) Not advising that this would be the case anywhere when I was purchasing it and B) all the hassle I've had trying to set it up today. Save yourself that hassle and go to your local music shop or perhaps get one used that you can have a look at first.

Keep on picking
Arrived early, well packaged. Looks fantastic, sounds brilliant, easy to tune with cheap digital tuner. Only one small issue, 5th string is not geared (friction) and can be knocked out of tune if not careful. All in all good value for money 👍
