Thrilling, romantic, spicy and witch cackling funny
I couldn’t have picked a more perfect book to read in time for Halloween. This was everything I wanted and much more……Essie has the ability to chill and performs the annual ritual of bringing in winter, want snow for Christmas morning then she’s your girl. Unfortunately she can’t always control it, as an ex boyfriend found out via frostbite and reconstructive surgery. So when new landlord Josh arrives in Good Winter and seems to be able to see past the enchantment spells right into her witchy heart it can only spell double, double, toil and trouble. This had such brilliant characters, constantly gender changing Avery in their bearded finery, literally fighting cats and dogs (fencing seemed very dignified) Tiffany glass parrots that screech profanities and strange witches that live in an even stranger house. The plot was time travellingly wonderful and yes I did just turn the word travelling into a made up word. But if witches can knit the future then I can do that. It manages to be thrilling, romantic, a little bit spicy and at times witch cackling funny and I hope this is the first of many visits to Good Winter.

Good read, enjoyable
This was such a lovely light read. Perfect cozy, witchy vibes, a great book to be reading by the fire on a rainy evening.I love the double POVs, the vulnerable moments for each of the characters, and the plot line. Simply written which makes it an untaxing read.

Cute
I wouldn't call it laugh out loud but it was fun. I normally avoid any time travel stories because they are rarely done well so I think I would have avoided this if I was aware there was time travel in it.But it was done fairly well and I enjoyed the different situations the characters find themselves in. Essie and Josh were OTP couples goals and Siena was hilarious.

A delightful tale of witchcraft and romance grounded in history
‘Move to England,’ he muttered. ‘It’ll be like Miss Marple before all the murders. They don’t tell you… about the damp, and the birds in the roof. .. This village was weird. All of England was weird.” - ‘Hex Appeal’ by Kate Johnson. This witchy romance was a great deal of fun.Josh Henderson moves to Britain from the USA after he inherits an estate in the picturesque Essex village of Good Winter. His inheritance includes a ramshackle house that will require a great deal of renovation and a number of tenanted properties that should provide him with rental income. The key word is ‘should’. Those that are habitable have peppercorn rents fixed in perpetuity. For one property, Beldam House, it appears that no rent has been paid since 1746! Josh is determined to take his landlord duties seriously and sort this out.Essie Winterscale only ever wanted a normal life but she is unable to suppress her witchiness and is drawn back to the ever-changing Beldam House. She now lives there with a coven of other witches of various ages. Then Josh turns up on their doorstep and while Essie is determined to keep him at broomstick’s length, things don’t go as planned. No further details to avoid spoilers.I found this an engaging tale that balanced a lovely romance with fantasy, humour, and some chilling bits. Most of all it was clear that while there are fantastical elements in the tale, Kate Johnson had researched the history and practices of magic and witchcraft and more importantly is aware of how it actually works. Her Author’s Note on the burning of witches, poppets, and witch finders was very informative. While I don’t mind silly witchy stories, I am always impressed when an author does understand the nature of the Craft and conveys it through their writing.I definitely will be reading more of her writings following this positive experience.

'Charmed' meets Mills and Boon
Well written, witty, novel about witchcraft, witchfinder generals and the difference, and similarities, between Americans and Brits. Really good read.

Wow. Just wow
After a bad breakup Josh moves from the States to a small, decrepid cottage in England that he inherited from his estranged father. There he meets Essie, who turns out to be a witch living in a very strange house with some other witches and cue some very strange happenings.I enjoy reading supernatural stories and this one, for me, is up there with the best of them. With witches, ghosts, demons and Witchfinder Generals there is plenty of action, a touch of (spicy) romance and humour that kept me hooked all the way through. Highly recommended for those who enjoy supernatural romances. I'm now off to read the next one in the series

Unexpected, enjoyable and worth every minute!
My only complaint about this book was being so captivated I had to struggle to put it down for required adulting. It was clever, interesting and did not follow the same worn patterns in telling the story. I loved Esse and Josh. I hope to hear more of the stories of the other characters - except maybe Prudence. Thank you for the skillful telling!!!

A lovely little read with a magical twist, handsome romantic interest, string heroine and awful villain ! Great holiday read

Cute and easy read
This book was a fast and easygoing romance. Not too steamy or dramatic but easy to devour. A nice palate cleanser after delving knee deep in the Romantasy genre.

Good Enough
This was a good story. It had a great plot and I loved all the characters accept the MMC. I just had a hard time liking him. There really wasn’t good chemistry between the MMC and the FMC. Just a bit of a disappointment
