Works great!
I use this product to hold a spinning rod or a fly rod while wading. I switch rods frequently so this products has been used several times (although a recent purchase). It holds the rods securely and it pivots so I can wade with the unused rod almost vertical without removing it from the holder. Very happy with it, would buy again!

Perfect third hand
Probably the number one fly fishing accessory I’ve purchased. Whether you’re tying on a new fly in the stream or removing a hook from your catch, this rod holder works great! Can’t recommend it enough.

Another Gift for Hubby
My husband Christmas was made better with this gift from me. I had overhead him saying he sometimes struggles climbing up and down banks and navigating certain trails while holding onto his fly fishing rod. Or when he is standing thigh deep in the water and needs to add a new fly. This Hand Belt Clip Rod Holder is the perfect tool for that. He is very happy with it and wears it every time he goes out fishing. It's such a simple tool, frankly -- but can make such a difference for the fly fisher in your family (or yourself!).Happy Fishing! (Catch and release, please -- and use barbless hooks.)

Better than I thought.
I have lived without a rod holder for decades but because I find myself in situations that could certainly use one from time to time, I decided to give this a try. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised how well this worked out for me. I fish the salt waters in TX in the winter, rivers in Michigan and Ontario (and other places) during the spring-fall months. I didn't want to drop my gear into grimy saltwater and having dropped a rod in a fast flowing river, doing the down river chase and dive to get it back is not pleasant, especially in early spring. BRRRR. Anyway....this rod holder is solid and holds the rod out of the way while you fumble around with what ever task is at hand in the moment. I feel like I can look after a problem and not have to worry about the rod. It also makes for a nice mounting place while someone shoots a photo of your catch. No more over the shoulder balancing acts. I really do like this thing.

Fit the bill
Made things much easier on the water versus using the Velcro strap on my vest. Holds rod securely and makes it easier not to tangle line while changing fly or tippet. A little hard to rotate sometime but nothing major.

It works
This is a very nice addition to haul your rod down on your waist. I had a rod holder that held up on my chest and it could get in the trees, etc. but holding it down on your waist it’s very convenient and easy to fine.

Just okay
As one of my jobs I run a ranch and also guide fishing trips for bass in Texas. This year I have been too busy to fish as much as I'd like. However, I still fish more than the average angler. I fly fish 99% of the time. Okay, background done on to the review. I took 2 of these out with an uncle of mine. The old version and the newer version. We fished for a few days with them and both had some similar issues. In this case we were wet wading for stocking some bluegill. As you could imagine we were catching a lot of fish per day and both found ourselves standing in the water with our rods tucked under our armpits to change flies or to remove a hook. The point being, old habits die hard. Even just putting the rod and reel in the water was often done before even remembering to use the holster. We did use them, but it was mainly an afterthought. We both found them fairly useful and used them when walking from spot to spot with the rod facing backwards. With both of us (using different models) had them fall off once if I recall correctly. Personally I would rather it be a completely closed belt loop, locking clip, or some other solution. It also did not mount well onto my hip pack and was then in the way of the hip pack when mounted to a belt. My uncle had a vest on and had his mounted on the left side. His fly line got caught in the U on the rod holder numerous times while working the fly.. So he switched it to the right side. In the end, I think this would be very useful for walking long distances or if you are just starting out and this becomes normal for you to use. We both found it useful when used with the main 2 disadvantages being as stated. It fell off on both of us and remembering to use it in the first place. It was simply easier to tuck the rod for both of us.
