Will this part fit the Baldwin 901Y?

It’s a partial fit for Baldwin 901Y. The half with the latch doesn’t fit into the 901Y, as it’s end is like 45 degree while the original part is close to 90 degree. The other flat half spindle fits fine. I ended up keeping the original latch half and replacing only the flat half spindle. Fixed my problem though.

will this fit a marks mortise lock ?

Yes it fit my marks Mortise front door lock that is from the 1920’s (the one with the push Handel on the exterior of the house and turn handle on the in side of the house)

What is the little piece on the end for? The tiny bit that goes off at an angle. It's only on one side.

That part of the spindle goes into the hub (spindle hole) first, then the other spindle half goes in the hub. That little angled piece keeps the spindle from coming out when both halves are combined and the knob/lever is screwed onto the spindle. Basically it is a lug, catching the other side of the hub.
