The Oxford Illustrated Book of American Children's Poems

The Oxford Illustrated Book of American Children's Poems is a beautiful book. The selections of poems are excellent. There is a great variety of poems from nursery rhymes to poems for older children. The editor chose poems with strong imagery to be easily envisioned by all readers, not only children. The illustrations are exquisite. They are watercolor pictures with muted colors, beautifully composed and interesting to readers young and old. I purchased this book from an Amazon vendor and it did not disappoint. This book allows children to be exposed to great literature and to share it with a cherished reader. As a professor of Children's Literature, I'm glad I purchased it. I look forward to using it in my class soon.

This is a wonderful collection of poetry for Children.It has a good mixture of classic and modern poetry and of straight poetry as well as a few sillier or funnier pieces.The poems also vary in length from a few lines to a couple of pages.I have been reading this to my son since he was about two and a half and he enjoys it. It is a really nice introduction to poetry, language and imagery and has a wide enough choice that it isn't too serious or too silly.

This book was a required text for my English Lit class and I was slightly surprised when we read it. I thought this was going to be a book of poems written by one author when it's actually a collection of poems written by different authors. I'm sure there are at least one of your favorite poems from when you were younger in this book which is why I enjoyed it so much. All of the good poems were included in this book so you don't have to go out and by individual books. I will be keeping this to share with my future kids :)

I'm reading this book aloud to my children and overall it's very nice. I like that the poems are in chronological order, though some of the modern ones are a bit odd. Many of the older poems are classics and very familiar. Some of the older poems also have 'dark' content that may be upsetting for very young children. I tend to have to skip over a line or two every few poems.

This book is an amazing introduction to poems. My kids loved it! The illustrations are beautiful!

Charming collection of poetry that we are using with the Sonlight homeschool curriculum History/Bible/Literature D+E. My 9 year old son who doesn't normally like to read aloud, will gladly read from this book.

Great Book. The book is organized into chronological order with when the poems were written. They are classic poems. Really like it.

It is a nice collection of poems to read to children or elementary students, which makes it perfect for any parent or teacher!
