A must have if using spin doctors
If you run spin doctors, you’ll need these. It doesn’t take much to scratch a circle in your tile if you forget to use them.

A must when using the Spin Doctor system
This shield protects the tile surface from scratches when tighten down the RED spinning cap. I just used it in my bathroom tiles, good to have it. However, it only comes in 100 pieces per box. If it comes in 250 pieces per box then it will definitely better to match with the number of spacers per box (250). I used about 110 spacers but ran out of this shield and RED caps.

Strong recommendation
So I bought these along with the red Spin Doctor things and the corresponding black 1/8 spacers.I strongly recommend these. I didn't realize how they worked until I used them. But they are actually slotted, so they don't spin while you crank down the red tops. This would prevent scratching of soft material, but also prevents mortar from being spread around the tile as you tighten, if it comes up high enough. I dont think I would ever use the Spin Doctors without these things.

These work great when installed with natural stone to prevent scratching it
These work very well and of you are installing natural stone they are cheap insurance to prevent scratches. Great system overall and the company was super fast on getting it shipped and delivered
