Q: Would this work on a UK console?

PS4 titles are region-free. With saying that though, I’m not sure in regards to the NTSC (US/Japan) & PAL (UK) settings for your TV.

Q: i'm confused. can or can you NOT play this without the psvr. some say yas and some say no. which is it. don't wanna open it if not?

So originally it could only be played with the vr headset on and disc inserted in the ps4. However on March 21st 2018 the developer announced that it is now playable in non vr. This title is currently available on steam with optional vr support for vive/ rift and ps store with optional vr support for psvr

Q: How do you grab the key from the planter? I'm using the wands and it won't grab the key, my hands just disappear?

If you’re seated while playing try standing up readjust the screen with your wands then try to pick up the key in the planter. That’s what I did. With a few trys you should be successful
