What's Up With Burnt Umber?
I am really enjoying the projects in this book. However, I've had some difficulty matching some of the colors she uses with the same paints that she uses. Rosalie and I actually had a text conversation about the burnt umber/ultramarine mix that she uses in multiple projects. Sometimes it comes out greenish for her as with the owl painting but for me it continues to be more blue gray/black which is what she says in the beginning of the book will happen with those two colors. So I bought the paints she uses and still cannot match some of her burnt umber combinations or the burnt umber itself. I did discover through google that the green can be made with burnt umber and cerulean blue so I'm getting a lesson in color mixing. Also, some of her steps are not as detailed as many reviews say. She sometimes describes different colors for the same paints without adding "add more or less water." Her book has a lot of white space which makes for a beautiful presentation but the tradeoff is a lack of written steps and details in the tutorials. On a bright note, I am enjoying using the WN&C Sketcher's Pocket Box Rosalee suggested for these projects, they are the paints she uses and using the small box is quite fun and I'm happy to find the joy in using a small number of paints.

So Friendly
I have looked through many, many how to paint books, and this is the best I have found. It actually took me a few months to get up my courage to open this book and give it a try because I was afraid for some odd reason. Art phobia? So, first I took a peek inside to see what it was like, on a day when I had no paints out, nor intention of trying. But I had enough of a glimpse that it pulled me in. Today I did the first lesson. Each lesson has a clear straightforward objective, an appealing subject from nature to paint, with a bit of info on the subject to enhance one's time with the subject, and step by step instructions, all with cheerful encouragement. Even though you are not expected to learn everything in one lesson, you do get a nice piece of finished artwork as a result of each lesson. The layout is very well done. I know I would enjoy being in a class with this author as the instructor.

Wonderful intro book to sketching and watercolor
While I do have art experience, studied in college and been at it awhile, I am out of practice. This is a great book geared for sketching, drawing, pen work and watercolor. I was not sure about certain things so I will explain how the book is broken down. The first half of projects use sketching, watercolor and permeant ink marker like Sakura micron pens or fabercastle fineliner. The second half only use sketching and watercolors. There are brief but detailed instructions for sketching, use of pen and watercolors. There is no watercolor paper in this book so you need to have that. Also, steps do not highlight specific tools needed for each project aside from watercolors by name. However, there is a getting started section in the front that covers what pen or brush is needed. You really only need 2 watercolor paint brushes size 0 and 2 and 1 fineliner pen size 05 micron. I have many sizes of microns so I also used a 08 and 05 to save time with thicker lines and so there's options there. What I like is you follow projects in order so your skills build and there are some facts about the subject being drawn which are a nice touch. There are also helpful tips about drawing in nature beyond this book. The daisy is the first project in this book, it focuses on the use of shapes in sketching. The artist encourages individuality which is important and while I followed the steps I also made my daisy more blue and added some metalic paint for highlights because why not :) I will work the entire book and I recommend it completely!

Easy to follow!
I'm picky when it comes to how to art books, so I always get nervous ordering online. However, I follow the Arthur on Skill Share so I had a feeling this book was gonna be amazing based on her online videos and how easy she was to follow. 10/10 I recommend this book! This is one of my top favorite books. I love how its colorful and when I finish a project I'm proud of what I was able to do and walk away with a new understanding, or walk away feeling like I learned something new about my watercolors. I don't know if this is really for people just starting with watercolors, but I practiced watercolors for about a month before grabbing this book and felt like it was perfect for me.

Highly Recommend - Watercolor fear no more!
I have been following Rosalie Haizlett for a few years now. I've purchased several of her pieces from Etsy and have been in awe of the way she would dip her paintbrush into her color palette and water to create such beautiful artwork.I've always considered myself art impaired. My best drawings to date have been with a ruler and a pencil with an eraser. But Rosalie made watercolor look so easy that I began to believe that I could do this. So I dipped my toes into Rosalie's watercolor Skillshare class first, and then learned about her book and preordered it. I followed the supply list suggestions from her blog and over Christmas break, I sat down with my pencil, palate of colors, and sketchbook and began to work through the book.Let me tell you, this book was like having a resident artist sitting at the table with me. Rosalie explains the concepts concisely in a way a person at any level could understand. I am very proud of the piece that I created and I didn't even use a ruler! In fact, it was freeing. Thank you Rosalie for taking the time to create such a book that we can all learn from. This book has my highest recommendation.

Encouraging and helpful
I really enjoyed reading 'Watercolour in Nature'. Rosalie Haizlett has such a gentle way of making all these projects seem well with my reach, despite my being an entirely novice watercolourist. Her instructions are simple and each project builds on the one before, with both new and repeated techniques to practice skills. I am excited to get painting!

Deludente
The media could not be loaded.

The instructions are broken down into easy to follow steps and the projects themselves are beautiful!
