Can both units work from wired Ethernet? I have wires that run through the house.

The wired backhaul is great as long as you keep it in bridge mode. For those that don't know what that is, basically you need to have something else handling your IP addresses (DHCP) like a domain controller / firewall / other router.

What is the difference between this one and the other set that's sold at 498(3 pack)? Is this an older model or a low-end version?

the main different is that this one is dual band and the other larger one is tri band the triband one is give you a lot better connection

Can this be set up from a computer instead of a mobile phone? (I don't have a smartphone)

I spoke to Linksys support twice on this issue. They claim it can be set up without a smart phone or tablet, and that a browser interface is available to set it up only using a wired connection from your computer. I'm ordering it for someone who has no smart phone or tablet, so I hope they are correct.
