How dark is the color grey? I saw it a store and it looked much lighter in color but it was called grey heather.

It’s a nice shade if grey, not too light or too dark...

Is the backback and/or changing pad bpa and phthalate-free?

The changing pad is a fabric similar to what the pack is made from, I don’t think it’s plastic. It’s not waterproof, not sure about the actual components.

Can you wash and dry this bag?

I probably would not recommend throwing it into the washing machine as it may lose its structure. I have not tried washing it, mine is still new. I would definitely use a washcloth and a cleaning agent instead and avoid a washer and dryer method
