Q: Will it work with a Chevy avalanche?

You'll be much better off with an Avalanche-specific tent because it allows access to the truck interior and use of the whole 8 foot bed (midgate down). They're pricey, but AMAZING.

Q: can extra poles be purchased, and if so, where?

You can buy extra poles through their website but you can also buy poles through Amazon which actually work well. I needed to buy a replacement pole because heavy winds snapped the fiberglass poles that came with my Napier truck tent.

Go to their site. I needed to contract them for product variations and they were available via phone.

Q: Is the measurement based off just the bed or is the tailgate included?

It covers the tailgate. So Assume that the measurements include a tailgate on the truck. If you didn’t have a tailgate on I think it might hang off a little bit
