Holy Stone HS110D: A super fun, easy to fly beginner drone
I’d have to say that I am very pleasantly surprised at how fun and easy the HS110D drone is to fly. Let me start off by saying that I have a drone family (both in the literal and figurative sense). We have a fleet of tiny indoor drones, and some really nice outdoor drones. I say we are a drone family in the literal and figurative sense because my children (4) and I love to fly the drones together outdoors, and the figurative part of the drone family is the “family” of drones we have between indoor and outdoor (a total of 8 drones).I purchased the HS110D because I wanted something that was super easy to fly, and could be flown indoors and out. The reviews were quite good, so I bit the bullet, not too hard because it was very reasonably priced relative to all of its features (~$55).It came in a premium box that included a lot of nice accessories. The HS110D came with 2 batteries, extra props/prop guards and landing gear, a comprehensive manual (which tends to be sorely lacking these days because they expect you to find it online, or the manual is super tiny), a nice little log/notebook (which actually has a nice, premium look of rawhide leather), and, what I liked the most was a “cheat sheet” overlay for the remote control. This drone is fun to fly, and super easy to learn. I really wanted this for my youngest daughter to feel safe and comfortable flying. And this checked all of the boxes.Taking her out for a flight was easy, and she took nice photos and video, responsive to controls, and decent battery life (for such a tiny battery). For ~$55, she packs quite a punch. Knowing that she was only ~$55 really helped me to set expectations. The photos and videos were decent quality, and I loved how she had the ability to do flips. I do note that because it lacks GPS and/or an optical flow sensor, much more user input is needed to keep her in control (I had to remind my kids, as they are used to my other drones holding their position because of the sensors and GPS). I think this is a great, entry level drone that checks the boxes of:1) fun2) easy to fly/control3) inexpensive4) decent photos/video (again, for a ~$55 drone).5) great user manual and accessoriesThere is not much I would want them to change or improve in drone in this price range. My only ask is that there was an external charger for the batteries (Unfortunately you have to charge the batteries in the drone)This is my second Holy Stone drone, and a reason to love Holy Stone is the customer service. It is second to none. They are responsive, understanding, helpful, and go way above and beyond to ensure that customer needs are met. They epitomize, “the customer is always right”. With the knowledge that Customer service is top notch and responsive, I will continue to come back to Holy Stone. They have a place in my drone family. So if you are looking for a great first/beginner drone (or simply a fun and easy to use indoor/outdoor drone), look no further! Here are a bunch of photos and a video I took. If you come into this with the right expectations (this is a ~$55 drone beginner drone, and not a professional or hobbyist level drone), you will have a great drone and a great experience.

Good Drone!
Overall the drone is a quality buy that works very well, even for beginners. It is a good drone to start with that will work for you.Remote ControlThe remote control is fairly easy to use. With a button for engine start takeoff becomes easier. As soon as you push the throttle up after engine start, the drone instantly starts. No need to start the engines using the throttle as well. The controls are intuitive and after some time they become very easy to use you are a beginner who is worried about controls. It is also the same button to automatically land, or you can come down manually. The display on the remote control helps show the status, speed, and setting of the drone and removes uncertainty about the settings. The photo and flip buttons are easy to reach. Overall the controller is a good size and structure.I didn't have any problems with loss of signal, and recommend keeping the drone within line of sight.BodyThe body of the drone is large and solid. The propellers have about a 4in diameter and though the propeller guards may appear to be flimsy they successfully protect the propellers from most crashes. The batteries are modular and don’t involve connectors, you just have to slide and click them into the body. The size and weight mostly resists wind and allows you to fly in fairly windy conditions, but I wouldn’t recommend it to beginners. The camera is attached to the underbelly of the drone and is detachable (no cords). Under the 4 arms, there was each a light, and they are covered by plastic guards. The lights aren’t very bright in the day, so you have to pay attention to tell which way the drone is facing.Aesthetically the drone looks good.CameraThe 1080p camera was great at taking photos at a height and low. The photo quality was good, you weren’t able to tell that it was a drone that took them, at least on live view. On taking the photos the image quality depended on the conditions. The front 2 propeller guards came in the top corners of the photo, but the guards is detachable as well, so you can fly without it and take photos like that. The camera is is unadjustable, it points forward, not down. I figured that to take photos at an angle you could use the trim features to change the angle of the drone and keep it that way (it was the 2 switches on the right side of the control next to the left joystick). The video feature in the camera pretty good. In the video I took flying around you could clearly see pictures but there were some spots where the video lagged and the images overlapped, but that was in the edges. Slow movement was the best for video. It could also be based on the phone you were using. The camera has a Micro SD card slot, but I didn’t test this out. There is no card included with the drone.SpeedThere are 4 speeds, 1 is the slowest and is perfect for flying if you are taking a video and want to be able to see details. 2 is the average plying speed, without much wind you can fly with great control over the drone at 2. The third speed is good for flying moderately windy conditions, the drone can move pretty fast with speed 3. At speed 4 the drone goes very fast and is actually harder to control than at speed 2 or 3. Speed 4 is mostly for heavy wind and to resist the wind. It is easy to lose control of the drone at speed 4.BatteryThe batteries each last on average 20 minutes each. It depends, of course, on the speed you fly at, but in okay conditions, with both batteries, you can fly about 40 min.The batteries take about 2 hours each to charge, but they can only be charged one at a time. To charge you have to put a battery inside the drone, and then charge through the drone using a micro usb to usb cable. So in total you spend about 4 hours charging, a disadvantage. The AppOverall the app is good, you can control the drone using it, view the feed live, and you can view the feed in VR.In the app on android, the drone asks for location permissions, permissions to save to your files, both are for saving the photos, and microphone permissions (for voice control). On iOS it asks for the same, except location permissions, which I assume to be included in one of the other permissions. If you don’t want to enable these you cannot use the app.I tried to use voice control, but mine didn’t work very well. When I trued to use the automatic photo taking feature where you put up 2 fingers (✌️) for a photo or your entire hand (✋) for a video, it didn’t seem to work. I’m not sure if its the lighting or something else. The drawing pad to control the drone didn’t work very well, but I found it unnecessary because you can’t control the drone as well with it.Live feed was slightly delayed from the actual thing, but not majorly. Live feed quality was very good.Other ThingsThe box the drone arrives in is very largeYou have to pair the remote with the drone by moving the left throttle up and down once.In The Box- 1 Drone- 1 Remote control- 1 battery (attached to drone)- 1 battery (separate)- 4 propellers (attached to drone)- 4 spare propellers- 1 USB to Micro USB cable- 1 manual- 4 propeller guards- 2 landing gear (attached to drone)- 2 spare landing gear- Screwdriver- 2 spare light coversMinor Problems1. Batteries only charge 1 at a time through the drone2. Not very portable, large in size3. Video slightly laggy4. Image qualities varies form live feed quality at times5. Live feed is slightly slower than what’s happening in real life. Not majorly though.Otherwise this is a great drone to purchase!

[UPDATE to my review] Trim insufficient. Camera is cheap (defective unit replaced by cust service)
UPDATE: so I was very impressed with customer service. They were eager to replace the drone or give a full refund. I elected to have it replaced. The replacement is much better which makes me believe all the more that I got one with a camera that was buggy. (The main issue for me was redness in video). But the video on the replacement does not have this defect. Also, regarding the trim, I was able to get this one to hover. I was happy about that even though it was not a show stopper on the original. Another thing, since my 1st review I have crashed the original a few times ... I would say gentle crashes like into bushes, tree limbs, landing tumbles, drifted into the side of the house ... (nothing too major) and I've been pleased with the durability of the drone. I have not had to replace any propellers (and I've stopped using the guards b/c my skills are improving - well, a little bit). Recently got too close to pine tree 80 feet up. Crash Landed in the tree. Thought it was lost. Was able to fire up the motors and almost flew it out while trimming pine needles, but whacked a pine cone or limb, then came tumbling down the branches and lastly a 30 foot drop straight down to the ground. Did re-sync and engine restart ... kept flying like an ace!I re-evaluate this drone believing that my original (defective one) may have just been an anomally. And after additional time, I have been further impressed with the overall quality - minimizing weight while giving it capable motors and electronics. I would still keep this in the beginner/intermediate skillset category simply b/c when you get to where you are ready to get serious, you will probably go for the higher end ones that return home, GPS features and higher end video. Yet I still recommend this drone not only because it has proven itself capable and quite durable, but b/c Holy Stone is backed by genuine customer support that stands behind their product. Upgrading my rating to 5 stars. 4.5 for drone and giving the extra .5 for cust support.PS: I have not downloaded app and connected to smart phone yet. So there may be more features available than I know. I will try that next.=========================================This is ok for a beginner/amateur. Once you are used to flying one, you will likely want more features and more precision in controls such as fly home/recall, altitude hold etc.Disappointed in the video/pic quality. Maybe I have a bad camera? Its tolerable. But if camera is pointed anywhere close to where the sun is at it gets blinded and vid is horrible. I wanted to get a vid of the sunset going down behind the trees and attempting this caused a red/washed look in the video. Vid looks half ok if you turn it away from the sun but it's not like it was high noon. The other thing is the trim. The drone drifts one way or another by default. You use the trim to counter this and the drone should hover. I have not been able to get the thing to hover. There is always more drift than the trim can counter. For me, at least it works properly. I havnt crashed it hard yet. Just trimmed some bushes so far. I'm basically using it to sharpen my skills and then will get a more expensive one with better features, longer flight time and especially better video.

HS110D . . . HS Hit a Home Run!
Holy Stone has put out an excellent quadcopter in the HS110D. While technically considered a "novice/hobby" unit, this one has a stack of features and dependability that REALLY impressed me (and I've flown for a while, having experienced my share of different brands). It comes with 2 batteries, along with a spare set of blades, 2 spare lamp covers (caps), screws and a small screwdriver, charging cable, etc. It's a really compact size and sturdy - haven't crashed it (yet), but I believe this one could take a hit and still come out ok.The instructions are easy to understand - particularly helpful for those with little flying experience. It comes almost fully assembled right out of the box, with the only "pre-flight" work that needed to be done was to attach the 4 blade guards to the drone, attach the cell phone holder to the controller, and it was ready to go (after charging the batteries). Expect roughly 10 minutes flying time per battery (which is pretty standard). The fact that a second battery is included is a nice added feature. The (phone) app for the HS110D is clean and simple. One particularly nice feature is a "Drone Power" battery monitor that allows you to keep track of the drone's battery status (without having to depend on blinking lights - which you can't always see during daytime flights). While I have yet to try out all the features on the app, those I did seemed to operate well. The video quality is very good - especially for a drone in this price range (it easily rivals many of the more expensive brands). The fact that it has a relative wide-angle camera with the photography/video stuff. The bank of buttons on the controller addresses its several functions, including the Emergency Stop (motor shutdown), Speed Adjustment, Altitude Hold, a 360-degree Flip, Emergency Landing (a nice feature for those who are not yet weell-practiced in the art of soft landings), and the Headless Mode - all nice features for such a reasonably-priced unit.Another nice feature (if you ever need it) is the company's customer service. Had to contact them a couple of times (for some general product and battery-related information - NOT problem-related) and was really impressed. They are easy to reach, prompt friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a fun, easy-to-fly, sturdy and dependable unit (at a very reasonable price), give this one a look. Based on my experience, they hit a home run with this one.

Pretty good for the money.
It’s my first drone, so I’m no expert. Before I went through the second battery a motor had gone bad. Prior to this it seemed to be out of range at maybe 20yds. Once it got that far away it just kept drifting further and couldn’t get it to come back. The only option was to set it down where it was. Once it was in a road( fortunately no cars coming) and once in a corn field ( fortunately the lights were still flashing and it was getting dark so I was able to find it). Overall when it’s close to you it’s easy to control and a good learning tool. I look forward to getting a replacement motor and getting it back in the air. I never had a chance to check out any of the app/camera functions.
