The Movie & TV Music of Danny Elfman

Wonderful gift for my movie-loving son, and I love that the music isn’t simplified. I wish all piano books came in a spiral-bind option; I take them to a print shop to have the binding cut and a spiral inserted so the book can lie flat on a music stand.

If you're a fan of Danny Elfman, and if you play the piano, you've probably had a hard time finding many arrangements that really do his music justice. Some of his music, like Nightmare, Alice, or the Simpson's theme is easy to find, but some of his other work has seemed to be only available as fan transcriptions or tucked away in an obscure movie must book.This book has quite a few gems that i haven't seen anywhere else. It's great to have official versions of the Edward Scissorhands music, the Batman theme, Scrooged, and even Somersby in this book.The difficulty is generally advanced, but not impossible. I felt like some of the pieces had some unusual notation in the time signatures, making sight reading a bit wonky. For example, in the Avengers' melody section, the notes are almost all quarter, so the music is spread across many bars, where I think it would've worked better to use eighth notes... regardless, it's still good enough to enjoy.There are some older pieces represented as well, and thankfully I was able to look them up to know what they sounded like, and there are also some pieces that might be a challenge to reproduce at the piano. Overall, the book has a lot of fun songs and fans of the composer will enjoy many pieces throughout.

The pieces were too short and too simple for me personally. I am beyond grade 5, and wouldn't recommend it to players above this level. I was disappointed by this book as I have played other versions of some of the pieces which were much more satisfying to play.

Danny Elfman, grande compositore tra i più quotati nel settore e tra i più particolari in senso strettamente musicale. Finalmente un book da collezione che raccoglie tra le sue più belle composizioni, finalmente anche quelle meno conosciute e magari più ricercate dai fan tipo The flash, Mars Attacks! etc. Non può mancare nella collezione di un vero appassionato di musica per cinema, non lo consiglio, ma lo stra-consiglio!
