Winning across the border
Amazing story of how 3 gamblers are able tobecome rich by placing bets on a filly to win the Kentucky Derby months before she was qualified. Also the story of her faithful groom and a jockey who was tuned into the greatness of this young filly.Loved the many whose faith made the dream come true for Winning Colors!

A book about horseracing and gambling.
This reads like a self-published book by a one-time author. Worthy of a movie script, but would need to be rewritten as the subplots are weakly written. Enjoyable, but not compelling read.

very entertaining, short read
Great read about the world of horse racing and the characters around it. Nothing beats a great racing story and the world surrounding horse racing

And they’re Off…
Interesting story in parts, with plenty of filling.I would have liked a better version of the border crossing with more detail. To me , that was the climax of the story. Unlike Seabisquit, this story was about the money. I knew from the book cover that she won the 1988 K.D.So I was surprised at the lack of drama from the author about the getaway.

Great WRITING!
I was surprised at just how interesting and technically correct this book is! Author assumes you know nothing, but keeps it interesting for those with an advanced level of racing. My only regret is that he does not have other books. Next year's Derby will be so much more interesting to me as a result of this book. My one regret is that there is no follow up on the lives of both Lucas 's,jockey, and trainer, assuming i am correct in that copyright for first printing was in 2020 .If Mark wrote a book about Panama Canal and island casinos, i would buy it on its release date.
