Do the center shelves have to be installed? Can the two ends be separate shelving?

Hi, the center shelves could be omitted and the two ends can be two separated shelving.

Would it be possible to shorten the middle shelves slightly or install them to overlap slightly into the outer shelving units?

You could shorten them, but then the ends would't be finished (they're veneer) or you could just let the extra hang into the side shelves, but they would take up shelf space and you would need to drill new holes to attach them.

Where does this ship from???

It's made in China, but ships from warehouses in the US.
