Wonderful lyrical command.

I succumbed to golden praise of Alex Ross's review. He hasn't steered me wrong yet. This is an amazing performance! It's the first time I've emotionally connected to Xenakis and Kuniko is an incredible musician. A perfect example of an inversion of Goethe famous phrase; music beong dynamic architecture. I only wish I had a SACD player.

Again, you need to be prepared for this level, but then you will love it!

Very musical performance and a nice recording of a wonderful work, although I feel the timpani and bass drum sounds have been compressed and recorded too low.

The content of this 3rd Kuniko release (I have both of the others) is more abstract than I anticipated (I will admit I was not familiar with Xenakis, the composer). However, I suspect it may turn out to be one of those CDs that needs time and several listening session in the quiet hours of the night. Time will tell ...

A wonderful disc. The percussion and drums are hypnotic, mesmerising. The sound engineering is stunning- a depth clarity and spaciousness within which the performance sits perfectly.

Confesso la mia parzialità. Adoro la percussionista Kuniko Kato e, alla notizia dell'uscita di una sua nuova opera discografica, la mia trepidazione è similare a quella di un bambino davanti ad una scatola di dolci.Premesso ciò, in questo disco la musicista giapponese interpreta due lavori del compositore greco Iannis Xenakis (1922 / 2001) : "Pleiades" (1978) per sei percussionisti e "Rebonds" (a + b) del 1987 - 1989 per un percussionista.Parlare della musica di Xenakis sarebbe troppo difficile in questa sede, considerando la molteplicità e la diversità delle sue opere. Basti qui considerare che "Pleiades" e "Rebonds" (a + b), scritte appositamente per le percussioni, esaltano le straordinarie capacità tecniche e dinamiche di Kuniko Kato.Chi conosce Xenakis ed apprezza la sua musica troverà in questo disco una grandiosa interpretazione. Chi non conosce il compositore greco ma adora le percussioni (non solo la batteria, sia ben inteso) avrà una bellissima sorpresa con l'ascolto di questo disco.

面白い決して華やかなサウンドでは無いのですが、心地よい低音の響きに酔いしれてます。なんて言うのかな？静かな林の中で耳をすますと聞こえてくるような音楽です。

曲のイメージが好みでは，無いだけのこと。曲の評価は失礼ですのでごかんべんを。

Peaux (Skins 太鼓) 11:25Rebonds A 08:07Rebonds B 06:21こんなこと書くと反発食らうだろうが・・・あえて書く。加藤訓子のチャレンジと健闘は認める。しかし、本来、６人で演奏されるべき作品を、１人で演奏するのは、やはり、無理だったと思う。加藤の「プレイアデス」は、リズムが狂っているように聞こえる（←私の耳が悪いのだろうか）。そして、ストラスブール・パーカッション・アンサンブル（ Pleiades ）の方が、《合奏》《アンサンブル》を欠く加藤よりも、きれいな演奏を聞かせていると思う（この「プレイアデス」という作品を１人で演奏すると、どうしても、楽器相互の相互作用は失われると思う）。「プレイアデス」という作品は、1978年に作曲された作品であり、ストラスブール・パーカッション・アンサンブルの委嘱により作曲されたもの。したがって、ストラスブールの演奏には、クセナキスの「お墨付き（？）」のようなものがある（あった）と考えていいだろう。←私の先入観かも知れないが・・・。「Pleiades: II. Metaux (Metals、金属)」と題された作品は、クセナキスが設計した６個の「sixxen」という楽器によって奏される（その他の作品：Claviers（鍵盤）、Peaux（太鼓）は普通の楽器で演奏されるようだ。Melanges（総合）という作品は、他の３曲で使われた全楽器で演奏されている）。「sixxen」という呼称は「６個、６人」の「six」と、「Xenakis」の「xen」の合成造語である。その楽器は、それぞれ、ファからシまでの音域を持ち、１９の音程を持っている（１９個の鍵盤は、アルミニウム、ブロンズ、あるいは、スチール製）。そして、それらの６個の「sixxen」は、それぞれ、低高複数の音域を持ち、それぞれは、互いに、1/4、1/3 の微分音により調律されている。（英語版ウィキペディアより）ストラスブール・パーカッション・アンサンブルの演奏する「Pleiades: II. Metaux」は、冒頭、共鳴でもなく、うなりでもない、ある種の不思議な共鳴音（ホ音の同音反復。冒頭の 約1'25"）が聞こえるが、加藤の演奏にはそれが聞こえない。「また、第２の試みは、微分音による19の音高をもつSixxenという金属製の打楽器を作り、これを用いることである。さらに、６人の打楽器奏者たちは一瞬たりともユニゾンにならないということも念頭においている。」（キングインターナショナル、HMV.co.jp より）【追加】この作品は、曲の順番が固定されてないようだ（英語版ウィキペディアより）。だが、加藤とストラスブールが演奏している「Peaux (Skins 太鼓)（最後の曲）」を、大音量で聴くと、両者いずれにも、スピーカが壊れそうなド迫力がある。 Pleiades
