Have a great time !
The new colored Pencil book of K.A. Kutch is a very good book both for beginners and for more experienced workers with colored pencil . This is a work book , you'll have need of a sketch book to keep next to it , to make your own notes . The book covers as many angles as possible . There is a chapter on the Wax based traditional colored pencils , with information I didn't yet have : a blue sketcher pencil from Caran d' Ache that erases easily . That sort of information is everywhere in the book . There is a very useful bit about the right paper , with all the variations possible : museum board , velum finished Bristol board and other kinds of paper ,board and film that are not to be found in my home town . So you don't try them out either . Now I can send for them online , without wasting money on too many trials and errors . Mrs Kutch is a huge favorite of aquarel pencils , using solvents , how to blend , - heat blending , various other ways . In the appendix , you get a color chart with color and aquarel pencils from Bruynzeel , Caran d'Ache , Cretacolor , Derwent , Faber Castel ( my own favorite ) , Koh-i-noor , Lyra , Sanford , Stabilo and Tombow . it is such a complete book , you'll need a lot of time to get trough it , not for the reading only -171 pages - but for doing your own experiments , encouraged by the lovely drawings in the book . I certainly need it .

Extensive Colored Pencil Book Set
I wasn't sure if this was a reprint of the other book by Kristy Ann Kutch. I looked everywhere to confirm. I found her site / email and was able to ask her questions about both her books. I was surprised that she got back to me so fast. She is super professional, very helpful, and knowledgeable. I am excited to get using both books. There are techniques I've never even heard of and ones I've seen recently reinvented and used in whole new ways! The shipping was fast. It was here a day early despite regular free shipping without prime.

Lots of Great Instruction
I've been learning to draw and paint with colored pencils for the past couple of years and I own many instructional books. Because there are so many new materials that can be used as substrates with this fine art medium, and because there are many new brands of colored pencils out in today's market, a new book that would include this information was needed. What separates this book from others is, first of all, it explains in detail the different surfaces that can be used with colored pencils, whether they are conventional like paper (the many brands and textures) or unconventional, such as drafting film and wood. This books also delves in detail about other materials that can be used with colored pencils, such as solvents and erasers. However, the reason why this book earned a 5-Star review from me is that it explains in depth the techniques to be used with water-soluble colored pencils, a subject that is sorely missed or it is only touched lightly in all the other colored pencil instruction books I own.The techniques explained in this book and the photos that accompany each section are quite inspirational. For a novice, this book is a great learning source. For someone intermediate like me, it's the kind of book that sends me back to the old drawing board and get my creative juices flowing.

Author is passionate and knowledgeable
The book arrived in a timely fashion and was in good condition. However, on reading half of the book and thumbing through the rest I realized I made a mistake buying it. The author is very knowledgeable and passionate about coloring with pencil, but it wasn’t a fun read. It’s more for the committed coloring pencil artist rather than a coloring book colorist/enthusiast like myself. The book is full of beautiful coloring pencil pictures which was an awe-inspiring bonus.

Good information, be prepared to read a lot in order to get that information.
First I should say that I don't have vast experience with Colored Pencils. I've been working with them for less than a year. I expected from other reviews for this book to contain more useful information than it did. There are many full color photos included in the book but not really any of the techniques. The book is very reading intensive - which is fine it is a book; however I believe I anticipated more photographs of steps and procedures than the book provided. I am primarily a Tactile Kinesthetic learner with secondary visual learning style. (Learn your learning style and you will have a better experience in learning new things). There is definitely some good and useful information provided in this book, I suggest sitting down with your pencils and a sketch book and playing with the techniques explained as you read through it. This will give you the tactile Kinesthetic experience and help to solidify any of the information you read within the pages. While I don't imagine most are TK learners, I firmly believe that the act of Doing something (eg: using colored pencils with new techniques learned in a book) solidifies the learning into skill. You will take far more away from this book by playing with the techniques as they are introduced than using it as a reference.

Not for me
I was a little disappointed with this book. Even though it has a lot of interesting information for someone who may have a good idea of what they are doing, it is not for the novice. I found that the information they gave was good, but not detailed enough for someone who is unsure of their skills. I have many books that are about drawing, yet they seem to assume that the person reading them has some sort of art background. This is another one of those books. Good book for someone with some art knowledge, not for the uninformed.

Great book!
I have just returned from my third annual Kristy Kutch class in Newport, Oregon. I pre-ordered this book after last year's class and received it as soon as it was available. Kristy has an unparalleled knowledge of all things colored pencil! She keeps herself on the cutting edge of new products and then tests them and instructs her many students all over the country on how to use them. This book has a very comprehensive view of the pencils, surfaces and associated products available today. Her many great techniques have inspired me at each of her classes and are well-explained in this book. Thank you, Kristy, for yet another tool for my colored pencil arsenal!

Excellent Resource
This book is an invaluable resource for every artist who wants to work with coloured pencils. It’s very informative and delivers lots of insights into the art. I love the way Ms. Kutch explains her paintings, including what paper she used. Very helpful! I recommend this book highly.
