Breaking Negative Thinking Patterns is the first schema-mode focused resource guide aimed at schema therapy patients and self-help readers seeking to understand and overcome negative patterns of thinking and behaviour. Represents the first resource for general readers on the mode approach to schema therapy Features a wealth of case studies that serve to clarify schemas and modes and illustrate techniques for overcoming dysfunctional modes and behavior patterns Offers a series of exercises that readers can immediately apply to real-world challenges and emotional problems as well as the complex difficulties typically tackled with schema therapy Includes original illustrations that demonstrate the modes and approaches in action, along with 20 self-help mode materials which are also available online Written by authors closely associated with the development of schema therapy and the schema mode approach Review: Great book if CBT isn’t working well enough for your social anxiety. - This book made and is continuing to make a big difference in my social anxiety. Coupled with exposure therapy, this book is a game changer. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is great for a lot of things but it didn’t quite seem to help with the shame/embarrassment aspect of social anxiety the way schema therapy does. The key to having the success with this book is having the courage to revisit the most painful memories of your childhood. The one memory that you just want to forget and never think about: that is the memory that will bring you the most healing if you revisit it. ( whether it be exclusion, bullying or other traumas). So if CBT is just not cutting it for you for your social anxiety, try schema therapy like I did. You won’t regret it. Review: Great therapy book. - Excellent book, very useful to guide patients through therapy exercises that help transform their cognitivr schemas. I also loved the traums informed theory behind the model.

merely adequate
As a therapist I can say that this is middle of the road for most books on the application of therapy. I wouldn't call it groundbreaking at all. If you have let's say 5-6 years of practicing CBT you'll find next to nothing in here that's new.

Great Behavioral Therapy, Self-help and Parenting Book
Best behavioral therapy book for self help. Easy to understand the causes of negative behaving and thinking patterns in detail. Language of the book is simple. Parents also read it to shape their attitudes and behaviors towards their children in the best way for the emotional development of the child.

Pages not set well into the spine
Schema based with workbook type activities that let you get more insight into how this methodology is works in a real world way through you and your experiences. However the paperback version of this book that I received had man pages that simply fell out while I was reading. It seems obvious that the press that binds the book had an issue and therefore made reading the book far too difficult as I was constantly picking up loose pages that fell out on the floor as I turned them. Trying to reinsert them means not being able align them as well as they would be had they been bound properly initially. This was a disaster for me trying to read and get the most from this book. Posted are a few of the pages that were never bound to the spine.

Provides Super Important Reflection
So interesting to see yourself in these different “modes”. This is a great book for reflection/introspection and personal growth and understanding why you are the way you are with these behaviours/negative thinking patterns. Can’t wait to finish the book!
