It will sync to whatever hardware or software is sending the midi tempo. If it’s the master unit everything else will sync to it.

How does the mix in jack work? does the input go through the filter, amplifier, chorus etc or just straight out the output jacks or usb interface?

Yes- You can plug any sound source into any Boutique "Mix In" and utilize filters, cutoff, LFO, etc
