DCC Projects & Applications (Wiring & Electronics, 3) Paperback – March 1, 2015

Informative and detailed publication; DCC Projects & Applications, Volume 3. I am new to DCC, so my knowledge of the concepts discussed were, is limited. The topics discussed are understandable and straight forward. Only time will tell if I understand and apply what I am learning on my model train footprint in an economical way.

Very comprehensive in learning digital controls for those that want to expand their hobby and add realism to the trains & layouts. would highly recommend as it opens many functions not previously available before the digital age

The book is well written, but technical advances and changes occur so quickly that this and other volumes are out of date. This one was printed in 2015. Some of the DCC plug-and-play decoders mentioned in the book, and which I had hoped to use, are no longer available and almost impossible to find, even on eBay. Plug-and-play with 9-pin connections is going the way of dinosaur, unless you do-it-yourself. There are a lot of new sound decoders that also govern movement, but they require a certain amount of micro-soldering. You may even have to remove older DCC decoders in your locos in order to install newer sound decoders - more soldering. This can be discouraging to newbies, who'd just like to get chugging along on the track. My recommendation is find a reputable hobby store, call them up, and get their ideas according to your situation - the book is a good reference for legacy purposes - already!

It has all the info I needed to program & set up my trains.
