Aedes Ars the castle of foix is located in the city of foix, a city that dominates from a height of about 60 meters, in the French department of the ariège. Although it is an important center of tourist attraction of the city of foix and of the department of the ariège, it is also known for being one of the main places Associated with catharism. The castle is built at the point of convergence of the arget and ariège rivers; this place that allowed the control of the access roads to the high basin of the valley. Few data are known about this primitive castle. In 1034, the castle becomes the county seat of foix, playing an important role in medieval history. During the next two centuries, the castle protects not only the counts but also the inspiring personalities of the occitan Resistance during the crusade against the cathars, and the county becomes a privileged refuge for the persecuted cathars.
