Asterix and Obelix, the French comic book heroes created by René Goscinny and Albert Underzo, are brought to the big screen in their first live-action adventure. Set in 50 B.C., Asterix (Christian Clavier) and Obelix (Gérard Depardieu) are a pair of comedic heroes living in a small but well-protected village in Gaul, where a magic potion turns the townsfolk into mighty soldiers. When Roman troops carve a path through Gaul to reach the English Channel, Caesar (Gottfried John) discovers the secret elixir and captures the Druid leader who knows its formula. But he hasn't counted on Asterix and Obelix!

Very entertaining
My 18 year old daughter was introduced to Asterix and Obelix during a visit to France. She loved them so much that she made me buy this. This DVD has English subtitles, unlike the Asterix and Obelix Cleopatre DVD. Sometimes the translation is as funny as the movie, but it helps. Asterix and Obelix movies are largely visual slapstick anyway, so even without the translation you'd probably laugh. Don't be worried when you get the DVD and it has a Korean cover. The movie is in French with Korean and English (and I think Spanish?) subtitles. If you have the quirky sense of humor that likes Monty Python, you'll like this.

Asterix, Obelix, Verciningetorix and all the others join forces to HELP Caesar fight a challenge to his authority. One word of warning - the movie is in french and if you don't understand french, you can follow along the subtitles in english. It is true to comic book adventures with wit. I loved it.

Image quality not perfect, story is XXX
- Said to be "full-screen" but in fact 4:3. Actually, the movie started as full screen but when the story starts the image become 4:3. Not a big problem but how the original movie looks like.- Experienced noise and freeze. Product problem or master is poor, I do not know.- Drama is a bit dull. Later movies are better.

My students could follow the story easily.
Since I couldn't get the French DVD, I ordered this one in Korean. No big deal, because you can switch in French for the menu and the film. English subtitles available. My students could follow the story easily.

It did a pretty good job of "being" Asterix
Of course, the original comics, in French of course, are still better than any movie, but they did a pretty good job. And seeing Depardieu carrying a menhir around is pretty funny. My wife and I definitely enjoyed it.

Classic Asterix. If you speak French, it's great because the whole thing is in French. If you don't speak French and are relying on subtitles alone, there are several translation errors and typos to contend with.

Thoroughly enjoyed the movie but not having English as a spoken language isn't all that bad - the sub titles and replaying it is improving my French lessons at high school all those years ago.

Film ben fatto ed esilarante, da vedere.
A mio parere la trasposizione cinematografica di Astérix più riuscita, caratterizzata dalla fedeltà ai personaggi e alle vicende dei fumetti, affiancata alla parodia ben riuscita di un film storico: grande cura dei dettagli, costumi dall'aspetto verosimile e trucco e parrucco stile Hollywood degli anni d'oro, credibile anche per quanto riguarda i personaggi più comici o stravaganti. La fotografia contribuisce a distinguere il film dagli altri realizzati sul soggetto, che invece hanno più l'aspetto di una "umanizzazione" del fumetto e dei cartoni. La trama è coinvolgente ma leggera, perfetta per la visione in famiglia con risate garantite. Ottima la recitazione originale in Francese, ma davvero ben fatto il doppiaggio in Italiano, con interpretazioni esilaranti che addirittura esaltano i momenti comici.

Un film inégal mais plein de nostalgie
J'ai vu et revu ce film en VHS quand j'étais enfant, je l'ai redécouvert avec plaisir dans un Blu-ray plutôt joli (en ce qui concerne le transfert vidéo). C'est dommage de devoir passer par l'Allemagne pour avoir un film français en blu ray mais bon...
