Great resource
I believe, if you look at the website, there is a more updated book coming out. I suggest if you are going to buy this book, be sure you have the most up to date book. I suggest this in part because the author refers you to websites and some of the websites may change. If you have done a lot of genealogy and you are familiar with Acadian-Cajun genealogy, you might not need this book.If you are like me, somewhat familiar with genealogy but are just getting started, then this is a great book. As the title explains- this book is specifically about Acadian-Cajun roots. So, you will learn about names and families in Louisiana. You will be getting information about how to trace your ancestors from Louisiana back to Canada most likely and then over to France. What this book doesn't have- family lines. There is basic information about how to do research. Specific information about how to do research using sources in Louisiana, Canada and France. There are suggested websites, some suggested books, etc.I found it helpful. Enjoy.

Great book for amateur genealogists
My grandfather was born in a fishing village in Gloucester County, New Brunswick. I always knew of my french canadian roots, but Acadian? I knew very little about the Acadians and their history, but this book really is so complete with lots of information to teach you where to look and how. When you do find the sometimes confusing records, dates, multiple spellings of names, etc., - how to interpret it all. There are also many lists of websites, libraries, collections, etc. to continue your search beyond this book. For those researching their roots in the Canadian Maritimes, this is a very useful book.

There is so much helpful information in this book. I am glad it is a book I own because I have so much of it highlighted already. The French people use the dit so often and this helped me know what that means even though I think it is a strange way to do things. Great book.

Good tool for new researchers into this area
Many researchers of their genealogy discover that they have an Acadian link. This book will assist them in finding the resources to dig deeper and resolve the lines. Probably too basic for an experienced researcher in the Louisiana area.

Genealogy Books
Purchased it for my youngest grandson who is planning a trip to Louisiana to trace his French-Nova Scotia-Acadian ancestors. He seems quite excited about it in that planned trip and further research.

Great Book
This book is a must have for anyone interested in their Acadian-Cajun roots. It has given us some new ideas on places to look for records to find out where the family came from prior to arriving in Louisiana.
