I have some large tiles I'm scared of cracking, any tips on how to drill through them without cracking them?

I drilled through the tiles in our bathroom. The drill bit pierced the tiles easily. Your tiles my be different, I don't know. Those drill bits are very good, just do not push too hard and cool the tip with cold water time to time. Good luck.

For porcelain tiles are they effective in preventing cracks?

If you put a bit of sticky tape on and press firmly, but gently, I found no problem with them on porcelain tiles 😁

Although carbide, are these suitable for drilling in hard steel?

I just managed to drill 4 x 5mm holes in ceramic tiles before the bit burnt out. I followed all instructions regarding drill speed and cooling. Hope this helps
